Join ARK: Survival Ascended and plan your first day

Choose the correct regional world, arrive with your tribe, and build a small survival routine before chasing a giant tame.

Start on the ARK: Survival Ascended page and pick a regional server together. A listing marked Coming soon is a plan, not a world you can enter yet. When it opens, its server name, map and joining instructions are the details to follow.

Join the same version and world

  1. Install ARK: Survival Ascended; the older Survival Evolved is a different game. Finish the game update before joining.
  2. Check the chosen listing for its map, supported platforms, required mods, password and PvE or PvP rules. Do not assume every world uses the same setup.
  3. Use the connection method on that listing. If directed to the in-game unofficial-server browser, search the exact regional server name and check filters that could hide it.
  4. Confirm the whole group has selected the same region and map before creating a survivor. Let required downloads finish rather than repeatedly cancelling the join.

Ascended supports tribe play and cross-platform features, but an individual server’s configuration determines who can join it. Read the developer’s game overview.

Make the first trip deliberately small

ARK asks you to manage food, water, temperature and weather while gathering, building and exploring. For a first session, aim for a modest supply base and one short scouting route. A larger base and your first ambitious tame can wait until the group can reliably feed and equip itself.

  • Learn the resource and crafting prompts before spending all your time travelling. Keep basic supplies available for a replacement trip.
  • Agree who is gathering, who is building and where everyone should regroup. Describe a landmark rather than saying “over here.”
  • Check the chosen creature’s actual taming requirements before committing supplies. Do not assume every species uses the same approach.
  • Ask before changing tribe ownership, structures or communal storage. Keep valuable shared resources organised so another player can find them.

If the join fails

Record the exact error and whether it occurs during launch, mod download or connection. Work through Studio Wildcard’s troubleshooting instructions for that stage, then send a support ticket with the regional server name and what you tried. You do not need to reinstall immediately just because a server is temporarily unavailable.

Practise a recovery before a risky expedition

Keep a basic replacement kit at camp and make sure everyone can explain the route back. Before committing your best equipment, try a nearby scouting trip with a clear turnaround point. If a player dies, pause and reassess the danger before the entire tribe runs after the same lost inventory. Send one coordinated group with a purpose, and ask an experienced player for the safest approach. The goal is to keep one mistake from becoming a chain of identical losses.
