Join Sons of the Forest and establish your first camp

Choose the same island, divide the first jobs, and prepare a useful camp before a long cave expedition.

Use the Sons of the Forest page to select your regional world together. Check its difficulty, current rules and access instructions. Listings marked Coming soon are waiting for launch.

Join the correct shared island

  1. Update the game and copy the exact server name from the listing.
  2. Follow the listing’s instructions to find it in the game’s dedicated-server browser. Check the region and name before joining.
  3. Enter the server password if required. For a returning session, use the appropriate existing character/continue option rather than starting fresh without checking.
  4. On arrival, ask where the crew has established camp and what progress has already been made. Agree whether story discoveries should be experienced together.

The dedicated-server reference explains that world configuration, save slots and access are controlled by the host. Tell staff if you seem to have joined a different save; do not assume your former world has been wiped merely because its name looks similar.

Build a useful camp before a beautiful one

The game combines building, shared supplies, exploration and changing seasons. Endnight’s game overview describes cooperative defences and storing food for winter. For a first evening, choose a small camp the group can find and use reliably.

  • Divide jobs: one person scouts the nearby area, another gathers building materials, and another checks the group’s food and equipment.
  • Choose a place to regroup and describe it using a clear landmark. Avoid sending every new arrival alone across the island.
  • Keep shared supplies organised and ask before consuming the last of something the group is saving for an expedition.
  • Check the available save interaction before logging off and follow the current server’s saving instructions. A running dedicated server is not a reason to ignore your character’s save prompts.

Make the first expedition a short one

Agree on a destination, essential equipment and a turnaround point. If someone is unfamiliar with the controls or low on supplies, solve that before entering a long route underground. Return, restock and discuss what the group learned before pushing farther.

Use Find a Crew to organise a spoiler-light first run or an experienced building session. Saying which experience you want helps new players join without unexpectedly missing the discoveries they came for.

Make the camp welcoming to late arrivals

Leave a simple handover for the next player: where the camp is, what supplies are shared, what the crew plans to do next and which discoveries you are saving for a group session. Ask a newcomer whether they want directions or a spoiler-free experience before describing a cave or story event in detail. If a returning player cannot find their expected progress, compare the server and character selection together. Clear coordination makes a persistent world feel like a shared adventure instead of someone else’s completed save.
