A little coordination makes a new start easier. Pick the same entry on the Rust page, agree on a meeting point, and check that server’s current rules before grouping up.
Get everyone into a team
Open your inventory and use Create team. Stand near a friend and use the on-screen invitation prompt; they accept through their inventory. Teams show members on the map and support shared markers and team text chat. Facepunch’s team guide.
If your key bindings differ from the defaults, follow the prompt shown in your game. Compare player names before accepting an invitation, especially around a busy spawn area.
Know which chat you are using
The text-chat interface supports global and team channels. With chat open, Tab switches between them. Check the active channel before sharing a meeting location. Team chat reference.
Place a respawn point
A sleeping bag gives its owner, or an assigned player, a place to respawn after its cooldown. The standard recipe uses 30 cloth and needs no workbench. Read the placement prompt carefully if assigning a bag to a friend. Sleeping bag reference.
- Choose a location you can describe to the group and give the bag a useful name.
- Check its availability on the respawn screen; placement does not guarantee an immediate respawn.
- Agree on your next short objective before everyone leaves in different directions.
Team limits, server settings and wipe arrangements can differ. Use the current server information and community announcements for those details; this guide does not set a Northern Fleet team-size rule.
