Connect Rust+ to your account, server and smart devices

Pair the official companion app, test notifications, and separate account problems from server-side Rust+ availability.

Rust+ is Facepunch’s companion app for the Steam game. It can show server information, team chat and paired electrical devices while you are away from the computer. Start at the official Rust+ page and confirm your chosen server on our Rust page. Pairing with Northern Fleet does not happen automatically when you join our website or Discord.

Prepare your phone and account

Install Rust+ by Facepunch Studios from your phone’s official app store. The developer’s App Store listing identifies the app and supported game; Rust Console Edition is not supported by this companion app. Follow its Steam sign-in flow using the same Steam account you use to play. A different account will not represent your character.

Allow the notification permission needed for pairing. After setup, choose which ordinary alerts you want in the app. Do not turn off every notification while trying to pair: Facepunch explains that pairing requests also use push notifications. Keep the phone nearby and unlocked during the first attempt.

Pair the server

  1. Launch Rust on your computer and connect to the server you actually play on. Wait until you have joined the world.
  2. Open the pause menu, choose Rust+, and select the server-pairing option. If the panel reports that Rust+ is disabled, an administrator must make it available before you can continue.
  3. Open the pairing notification on your phone and confirm the server shown there. Return to the app’s server list and select it.
  4. Check that the server information or map loads. If you use a team, confirm that the expected team appears before relying on chat or alerts.

Add a device and test it

Server pairing and device pairing are separate. Build and power a Smart Switch or Smart Alarm, then use its in-game interaction menu to pair it with Rust+. Name devices for their purpose, such as “Workshop lights”, so another teammate can identify them.

Test with something harmless first. Toggle a lamp through a Smart Switch, or deliberately trigger a Smart Alarm while watching the phone. A Smart Alarm needs an electrical signal; pairing a server alone does not create an automatic alarm for every base event. Facepunch’s device overview describes the difference.

If pairing or notifications fail

Check the account, notification permissions, selected server and phone connection in that order. Record whether the request never arrives, pairing succeeds but the server stays offline, or only one device fails. That distinction helps the crew investigate.

Rust+ also needs a working companion service on the server. Its availability is an administrator setting, and an incorrectly reachable service can be disabled automatically. Send the server name and exact symptom to support; the crew can use Facepunch’s server checklist.
