Valheim crossplay: joining friends on another platform

Check crossplay availability and use a join code when your group plays across supported platforms.

Before inviting a friend from another platform, check the entry on the Valheim page or ask the crew whether that particular server has crossplay enabled. A server address alone does not confirm crossplay support.

Use the current join code

For a crossplay session, someone already in the session can find its join code in the pause menu. The joining player opens Join Game → Add server and enters the code. Iron Gate documents this flow in its crossplay FAQ.

  1. Confirm the server name with your friend before connecting.
  2. Ask staff privately for the current code and any required player password if you do not have them.
  3. Select your intended character, join the session, and check that you have arrived in the expected world.

When an Xbox player cannot join

Both the server and the Xbox player need crossplay enabled. If the setting is unavailable, Iron Gate advises checking parental controls. Have the account owner or family organiser review those settings. Official Xbox crossplay guidance.

If the code is accepted but joining fails

Record the full error. Compare the client versions and ask whether the server requires a particular setup; our version and mod checklist covers the next checks. Do not assume a Steam launch button will handle every platform or server configuration.

If you need help, open a private support ticket and include your platform, server name and the point where joining stops. Keep private access codes and passwords out of screenshots and public chat.
